How far is that in horse-and-buggy time? This mile marker, 10 miles from Baltimore, is diagonally across the street from The Phoenix Emporium, under the bridge going into Ellicott City, still on the Howard County side of the river.
It was the 1751 GPS system, but these landmarks are a thing of the past. Now they are just targets for cars that stray off of the road. They also are endangered by expanding development. They stretched all the way from Baltimore to Frederick.
