Not-So-Furry Murray

Meet Murray, a young and playful collie mix who is ready to be part of your pack.

Hey guys, it’s Murray checking in! As you can see from my pictures, I’m a handsome young boy. Mutts Matter thinks I'm a smooth-coated collie mix because I have the sweet, social temperament and long, delicate snout of a collie, but my coat is short and easy to maintain. While I’m still just a puppy at only ten months old, I’m almost fully-grown and weigh 60 pounds now. I have some puppy energy in me and need my daily exercise and play time. Mostly, I’m just a loving and affectionate boy who’s good with kids and other dogs, and really love to be around my people.

My foster mom, Leslie, says I’m a 60-pound lap dog. I guess I don’t realize how big I am and her lap really seems like a great place for me to sit. This makes her laugh, but I just want to be near her. I miss having a family of my own, and am not sure how I suddenly ended up without one. I was rescued out of a shelter in Virginia after being found running around as a stray. A nice person pulled me to safety, and then Mutts Matter took me under their wing.

I'm currently living with an awesome foster family that includes another dog, two cats, and two kids to play with. I got really lucky and found a best buddy with my pup sibling, Carly. We like to play tug-of-war and wrestle in the back yard, and it’s been great having a canine companion and kids to play with every day. Because of my size, I’d fit best with another medium to large sized dog who likes to play and can “hang” with me. Because I’m still learning my manners and sometimes jump up to greet you, very small kids may not be the best fit until I get some basic obedience training under my belt. I would never hurt them and am a very gentle soul, but I'm a puppy and can be a bit rambunctious when I play and meet new people.

Did you know that collies make great family dogs? Just ask Timmy how he liked Lassie. I'm a smart pup and eager to please, so with some training, I’m going to end up being pretty great. I already know how to sit and take treats gently from your hand. I’m crate-trained and almost fully potty-trained too, but will still need to be monitored until I get it down 100%. What can I say…I'm still a puppy, that's what we do - play, chew, and pee! I'm still in the chewing phase, so having some delicious chew toys and bones available is a good idea. I’d like to add that I have not had a single destructive chewing incident in my foster home. I’m too smart for that, and understand the difference between my treasured toys and the human stuff.

Some of the things I love most include going for walks, playing fetch in the back yard, wrestling with my best bud Carly, or enjoying a delicious Kong filled with cheese. I also really love my toys. My foster family has a big toy basket and I like to dig out each and every one of them to make sure they’re all present and accounted for. I’m on it! I also love cuddling up with my foster parents in bed at night. They need me to look out for them and keep an eye on things, so I’ll let them know when someone comes to the front door, and also make sure the neighborhood dogs that pass by know I’m here watching the home.

I’m a very social, good-natured pup who gets along well with everyone: kids, dogs, and kitties too. Because I’m a young and energetic dog, I need an active family who will commit to my daily exercise, and having a fenced yard to run and play in would be ideal but not required. I really want my own family to love, so I sure do hope you’re out there and looking for me.
