Halloween Fun For Families -- and Adults

Will your Halloween be happy, haunted or both? Here are some adult- and family-friendly ways to make the most of October.

Even though Halloween is only one night, you'll have more than one opportunity to celebrate the scariest month of the year in Howard County and Central Maryland.

Whether you're looking to celebrate with a few drinks or find an excuse to get the kids out of your hair for a few hours, we have you covered:

Fall Spooktacular

This festive fall event will feature a magic show, crafts, treats, games, and fall refreshments on Oct. 12, 3-4 p.m., North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road.

Local Ghost Lectures and Book Signing

Russ Noratel, president of the Baltimore Society for Paranormal Research, will give a talk about ghosts and other unexplained phenomena on Oct. 24 at the Howard County Historical Society Library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City and Oct. 27 at 8328 Court Avenue, Ellicott City.

Bats: Halloween and Beyond

The Oakland Mills Community Association and the Master Gardeners present Bats: Halloween and Beyond for elementary-aged gardeners Oct. 17, 6:30 p.m. at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia.

Columbia Association Halloween Events

Columbia Association’s KidSpace will be hosting a number of Halloween events for children of all ages:

  • The Monster Mash Halloween Dance, for youth in grades 6-8, will be held on October 26 from 7-10pm at Columbia Gym. 
  • Supreme Sports Club will have a Halloween Skating party on October 28 from 1-4pm. 
  • The Halloween Boo Bash, for children ages 3-10, will take place on October 20 from 10- 11:30am at Columbia Athletic Club and Supreme Sports Club. 

Track of Terror Halloween Bash

DJ music, dancing and the “House of Terror,” event will feature premium beverages and appetizers, along with big prize giveaways for best costumes on Oct. 26, 11 p.m. at Laurel Park.

13th Annual Goodwill Gridiron Halloween Party

Baltimore Ravens players Michael Oher, Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson will be the hosts of this year's Goodwill Gridiron Halloween party at Dave and Buster's on Oct. 29, 7 p.m. at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover.

Halloween Comic-Fest

Free Halloween Comic-Fest 2012 comics, free candy and mystery sales on select items on Oct. 26, 6 p.m. at Third Eye Comics at 2027A West Street, Annapolis.

Doomsday Asylum Haunted House

The longest running, locally produced, all volunteer haunted attraction is in its 26th year on weekends and Oct. 29-31, at Prince George's Stadium, 4101 Crain Highway, Bowie.

3rd Annual KidsPeace Trick-or-Trot 5K

Angela and Buck Showalter (and the Oriole Bird) invite you to run or walk for an important cause through the neighborhood of Canton and see the beautiful views of Baltimore from the top of Patterson Park, on Oct. 27, starting at 9 a.m. in Baltimore.
