Decades After Roswell, UFO Sightings Continue in Ellicott City and Beyond

People have reported UFO sightings in Ellicott City to MUFON.

Sixty-six years ago Monday a rancher in the area of Roswell, NM told the Roswell Daily Record that he saw a glowing, 15-to-20-foot saucer “zoom out of the sky … at a high rate of speed.”

In May, someone in Ellicott City reported seeing a UFO during the Hot Air Balloon festival at Turf Valley and reported it to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). The person reported seeing a luminance just to the right of a hot air balloon floating in the sky and even posted a picture.

Two other UFO sightings in Ellicott City were reported to MUFON in December of 2012, one included the brief description, "Thre red lights traveling from north to south at 400 mph."

Since Roswell, sightings of unidentified flying objects (which have somehow come to be synonymous with alien space ships) have been a constant inspiration for National Enquirer covers, conspiracy theorists and us everyday Joes as we try to figure out if we’re alone in the universe.

Even Google Monday celebrated the search for ET with an interactive Google doodle. (After Monday, look for the doodle here).

The United States government does not keep official records of reported UFO sightings, according this US News article, which highlights several pilots and military accounts of seeing something strange in the sky.

But according to a host of varied sources – ranging from the Huffington Post to UFOSightingsDaily.com – reported sightings of UFOs increased dramatically in 2012.

So what the heck?

If the skies are clear and you happen to be outside tonight, why not commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Roswell “incident” simply by looking up?

Have you seen anything “unusual” in the skies? Let us know, and report it to MUFON.
