Turf Valley Towne Square Hosts Trot for Grassroots Crisis Center

The Turf Valley Towne Square’s First Annual Turf Valley Trot attracted over 150 people and raised almost $4,000 for Grassroots, Howard County’s only 24-7 crisis intervention center and homeless shelter.  The contribution came from Trot registration fees, prize wheel donations and a $2,500 contribution from Turf Valley Towne Square.

The Turf Valley Trot included Greenberg Gibbons Chairman & CEO Brian J. Gibbons, State Senator Allan Kittleman and Howard County Council member Courtney Watson. Greenberg Gibbons is the developer of the Turf Valley Towne Square project, and Turf Valley is in Kittleman’s legislative district and Watson’s council district. Runners, walkers and other attendees enjoyed live music, games, food and refreshments, free giveaways and special discounts.

Proceeds from the event went to support Grassroots, which provides a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline, walk-in counseling and Mobile Crisis Team to address suicide prevention and other issues, as well as a shelter program and Day Resource Center for people who are chronically homeless.  Grassroots is also currently operating the Cold Weather Shelter, which houses people in local churches and synagogues when the other shelter beds are filled.
