The Mall in Columbia Presents Benefit for Women's Giving Circle

Community leaders Maura Dunnigan and Helen Mitchell will be honored at the annual City Gives charity event presented by The Mall in Columbia on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5-8 pm., in the Lord & Taylor Court.  The event benefits the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County (WGC). Dunnigan and Mitchell will be recognized for their contributions in support of women and girls in Howard County and for their philanthropy and legacy of leadership. Hosting the event will be longtime Women’s Giving Circle supporter, Jaki Ulman, an avid supporter of many community charities.

Dunnigan will be presented the Leadership Award for her role in starting the WGC Circle Team in 2006. The team was established to raise funds to support programs for women and girls and to inspire others to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.  Since its inception, it has raised over $100,000. Dunnigan has served as a Women’s Giving Circle Advisory Board member and is actively involved with Girls on the Run, which is dedicated to the healthy development of young women.

Mitchell will be presented the Legacy Award for her longstanding support of women in Howard County. She is the founder and director of Howard Community College Women’s Studies program.  A professor of philosophy, Mitchell is the author of “Roots of Wisdom” and the creator of the telecourse, “For the Love of Wisdom.” She is also a faculty member in the Transformative Leadership and Social Change program at the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute).
