STEM Fun at St. Louis School

Students at St. Louis School in Clarksville were granted a unique opportunity to experience educational – and highly entertaining – demonstrations of STEM subjects during the school’s second annual STEM Family Fun Night. An adjunct activity to the school’s comprehensive continued integration of STEM initiatives for students this year, (including classroom robotics, computer programming clubs, and math competitions) the event drew over 135 students and their families.

Featured guest Eric Energy introduced the group to frozen carbon dioxide, the power of static electricity and had parents and students on their feet experimenting with electronic voice alteration software. US Open Robotics demonstrated the art of Lego Robotics and engaged the students in small group competitions. The event also offered hands on STEM activities for all ages in the areas of aerodynamics, catapult building and engineering with a marshmallow/spaghetti tower challenge. The event - which is the second one of its kind – was part of the celebrated Catholic Schools Week. St. Louis School, a certified X-STEM School by the USA Science and Engineering Festival, also offers opportunities like Cyber STEM Club (Grades 4 – 8) where students engage in extracurricular learning activities, including using LOGO-based language software to create video games, encode and decode messages using cryptographic algorithms, and more.
