Local commercial and residential real estate agents and contractors affiliated with Keller Williams Realty Centre of Howard County turned out in full force May 8, to beautify Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center and host a picnic for the families in the shelter program.

The Culture Committee of Keller Williams, a community service oriented group, focused on the local crisis intervention center and homeless shelter as their RED Day project.  RED (Renew, Energize, Donate) Day is an annual Keller Williams service initiative held country-wide to improve communities where the realty company does business.

Local Keller Williams volunteers weeded and planted the Grassroots Children’s Garden, painted rooms and hallways, designed and painted a mural for the children’s activity room, organized and provided supplies for the storage room and prepared and served a picnic supper for individuals and families staying in the Grassroots shelter program. Sandy McAlister was the chair of this year event.

“Working with the Keller Williams volunteers was a fantastic experience,” said Grassroots staff member Anna Katz.  “They did a year’s worth of volunteer projects in one day.”

Grassroots provides Howard County’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to community emergencies, and manage the county's emergency shelter for homeless men, women and families.
