Thunderstorms; Local Volleyball Star Headed to Turkey: What's Happening Ellicott City

Five things to know for Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Rainy weather >> Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. New rainfall between a quarter and a half inch is expected, the high is predicted to be 82.

Volunteer Orientation for Neighbor Ride >> Interested in volunteering in the community, why not try Neighbor Ride? The local program enlists residents to drive area seniors to medical appointments, social outings and fitness classes. An orientation for the program takes place Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Columbia. Find out how to volunteer here.

Ellicott City's Aaron Russell playing international volleyball >> Next week Aaron Russell, a Centennial graduate, will take the court at the Junior World Volleyball Championships in Turkey. He's a sophomore standout at Penn State as well. 

Howard County looking at Bikeshare program >> WTOP reported Monday Howard County is examining whether to institute a Bikeshare program in the county. Patch will take a look at the idea on Tuesday.
