Life in Howard County
Living in Howard County is wonderful, we have amazing libraries, beautiful parks and now, gasp! a Wegmans with Whole Foods on the way! Oh wait. I forgot about the HCPSS. Not so idyllic. Tumultuous. A roller coaster ride without the fun. David Justice who lives in Ellicott City created this cartoon that captures life in Howard County for parents who have kids in the HCPSS. Enjoy.

Most HoCo schools sell magnets or bumper stickers to parents as a fundraiser and it's a way for parents to show support to their kids schools. If you have a ton of bumper stickers on your car, it would appear that you have a lot of children. Or, it could be that you get redistricted and therefore have attended many schools.

If you have a problem with HCPSS, you can always move to Baltimore County. Some people don't know how good they they have it.

Not a bad idea at all. There are some fantastic Magnet Schools in Baltimore County. Gosh, wish I had thought of that.

I have to agree w/M.T. While the redistributing plan was less than satisfactory for many students and their parents, HCPSS is, in fact, an idyllic school system, and one that is recognized by colleges and Universities around the country as producing smat, high-achieving graduates. Give another district a try, or do a real comparison and you'll no doubt agree that we are very fortunate here.

Nothing is idyllic, while it's true that colleges and universities recognize our school system- competition is fierce and colleges have quotas so many students who worked so hard, end up getting edged out because they didn't have the 4.5 gpa and 15 extra curricular activities that this system produces. I am thankful to live in Howard County, but if I live close enough to a school to walk to then I expect my children would go to that school (not so in HoCo) and it really boils down to teachers, and parent involvement which can be found/produced in any school district. So I guess the grass is always greener no matter where you live.
