Traffic noise from Interstate 70 in Ellicott City has not gone down.
It is getting louder. The loudest periods coincide with rush hours in the morning and evening.
Sitting out back in the yard and enjoying peace and quiet is a challenge with the constant din of highway noise in the background.
Howard County planning and zoning and the Maryland State Highway Administration are viable options for voicing your concern about bothersome highway noise.
The last time a sound barrier was proposed was in the 1990's, but the noise has only increased since then.
Residents of Ellicott City near Bethany Lane deserve some peace and quiet for once.

Why did they build a highway with all those homes nearby? Didn't they know the highway would be noisy?
What? Oh, the highway was there when those people bought their homes? And they knew the highway was there and bought anyway?
OK, never mind.

I think the issue is the amount traffic has increased since the freeway was built due to people moving west and commuting in.

So the same people "moving west" are the CAUSE of the noise and also the same ones complaining?

According to the Maryland State Highway administration, they are proposing to widen Interstate 70 between Route 32 and US 29 by 4 lanes to alleviate traffic in the area.
Hopefully when they do this they install sound barriers.

As a current resident in which my backyard adjoins Route 70 (with a sound barrier installed,) the constant din is still annoying.
