Yes, those little striped fish you may have in your fish tank are helping scientists like Marnie Halpern understand how the brain and nervous system develop. 

And Halpern, in turn, is helping students in Ellicott City learn more about how science works as a member of the Nifty Fifty (times 2), a group of 100 scientists who share their work with middle and high school students in advance of the USA Science and Engineering Festival, which begins Saturday, April 28.

On Friday, Halpern, of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Baltimore brought specimens, scientific equipment and her enthusiasm to OLPH to share her research, knowledge and passion of science with students.
