Train Jumps Tracks in Howard County

Patrons at a nearby restaurant were evacuated as officials checked for hazardous materials.

Police and CSX crews are on the scene of a train derailment in Western Howard County.

Just after 12:45 p.m., firefighters and special operations units from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) responded to a report of a derailed train on the 1400 block of Woodstock Road, just next to the Woodstock Inn, according to a statement from HCDFRS spokesperson Jackie Cutler.

The nearby area was briefly evacuated, according to Cutler, including patrons at the Woodstock Inn. No hazardous materials were involved, however, according to Cutler, and no one was injured.

One car on the eastbound train came off the track, but jumped back on, causing the train to stop, blocking Woodstock Road, according to Cutler. The road was still blocked as of about 2:45 p.m., as crews attempted to move the train enough to let traffic by.

A CSX official on the scene declined to comment.

HCDFRS had cleared the scene by about 2:15 p.m. and turned it over to Howard County Police Department, the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s office.

It would be so great to see on a map the exact location of where incidents occcur, rather than a generalized map. Is that possible in the future to include a closer view of the neighborhood, please?

Hi Maureen,
I've added the location to the map, just to the right of your comment. It's not detailed, but maybe that can give you a better idea of the location (you can zoom in and out using the (+) and (-) sign). In the future I'll try to keep "context" in mind when I take pictures. Is that what you're referring to? The fact that the train isn't really in any context? I'm learning this photography thing as I go along, so thanks for the suggestion, I think that's a really good point.

HI,, Brandie! Thanks for your help. I am still confused.
I know what downtown EC looks like, where the B+O museum are, but why do people keep saying it happened in Woodstock? The star on your map is on Woodstock, yet the eyewitnesses are all in downtown EC. Better maps would help us know exactly where something occurred, especially us newbies. Thanks very much!
