"David Gertler announced he will be hosting science, engineering, technology and math (STEM) discussions with parents and homework help for students in science and math during scheduled sessions at county library locations over the next two months."

Two months til the elections and Gertler offers discussion on STEM. Where has he been? Most serious candidates like Andrews, De Lacy. Dyer and Kornreich have been discussing the issues non stop. Where was Gertler? This is not a beauty contest.

We may have half of our graduates in need of remedial ed in mathematics and the vast majority of the rest in dire need to actually succeed in college. The hcpss has some serious issues and for someone to parade in 2 months befor elections just doesn't get it. Sure we have Giles and Sidiqui who should be resigning for their role in the failure of the hcpss to adequately educate the majority of children in Howard county but to replace them with the clueless who show up just in time for the elections is almost as bad.

STEM, oh yea, has something to do with technology, like an online discussion.

"during scheduled sessions at county library locations over the next two months" yea that really missed the technology point like all the online resources available today for science and math at the tip of our fingers.

I am going to have to look into this technology consulting business, smells like a good ole fashioned snake oil salesman.

It might be a good idea to do a little research on someone before posting on highly read social media site. That's the problem with politics. Unfortunately, individuals like David Gertler who is running for school board, hasn't been a career politician. He spent his time earning 4 degrees including an MBA. He spent his time advising Fortune 500 companies by utilizing his extensive knowledge of math and technology. Now he is willing to give back to Howard County as a member of the school board. Sounds like a pretty darn good choice to me!

BOE members really should not be "career politicians" like the two incumbants, lean to a specific party, be union endorsed or any of the other garbage we have promoting a candidate. What we need is people who are knowledgeable and active in education. For this to happen we need a BOE who actually accepts term limits, is inclusive of the public and fosters an atmosphere which allows for an educated public from which to elect their replacements.

This is not a beauty contest yet what we have for candidates in November leaves much to be desired as most of them just showed up in one of the lamest primary elections Maryland has ever held and we are left with 6 who appear to be entitled. Other than De Lacey, none of them have been out in public. None really have a grasp of the issues and most believe top of the dung heap as teach to the test has earned us is a great place to be.

Really does not matter if Gertler was a carreer student or made a lucrative living durring the boom years. Yes there is a serious lack of both math and science in our schools as well as many other things but if he wants to be elected he needs to get out and get dirty. We definitely need to kick out our current problems, Giles and Siddiqui just as we need to do the same thing in 2 years with Aquino and French and again in 4 years.

Researching candidates is not what the public needs. We need good candidates who earn their way.

Want to know what supporters of our problems are doing? They are being real quiet so not to draw attention to new candidates. Want to get elected than you need to state your case otherwise we get 4 more years of Giles and Siddiqui which the informed all know is plain bad for children.
