Main Street was closed from Ellicott Mills Drive to the Baltimore County line Wednesday afternoon.
Flood waters led Howard County Police and Fire and Rescue to close Main Street Wednesday afternoon.
The typically calm Tiber River raged Wednesday afternoon.
The water was about two feet high Wednesday afternoon as officials kept an eye on the rising Patapsco River.
The water was close to sidewalk level on Maryland Avenue next to the B&O Railroad Museum.

Patch editors and photographers were in downtown Ellicott City when the Patapsco River rose several feet, prompting the evacuation of Ellicott City.

We went down there about 7 pm and you could not tell anything had happened! Amazing. Restaurants open, people walking.

It's so surreal to see our house and car(the red Volkswagen) submerged in the water. We live in Valley Mede (Ellicott City) and lost our home and everything in it on Wednesday.
