No Mandatory Evacuations on Main Street

Officials say the river held and no serious flooding was observed.

Howard County did not require residents and merchants to evacuate Main Street Monday night, according to officials

As heavy rains continued to fall and the Patapsco River continued to rise last night, officials said they were canvassing a small number of buildings in the Historic District to recommend evacuation.

But "The river held steady," Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jackie Cutler said at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. No evacuations were ordered and, she said, Main Street was not closed to traffic.
