More Thunderstorms Ahead? Week in Weather

Friday's storms knocked out power to hundreds of thousands across the state, there may be more on the way.

The thousands of people who lost power in Howard County after Friday’s thunderstorms had to endure another night of anxiety Sunday night, when more thunderstorms rolled through the area.

We’re not out of the woods yet.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there is a slight chance of thunderstorms through Wednesday night, though there are no high winds in the forecast.

NWS is also forecasting more hot weather, though milder than the past few days, when actual temperatures approached 90 degrees and, with the heat index, 105.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday, with temperatures reaching about 92 degrees. Thunderstorms aside, NWS is predicting mostly sunny skies.

Tuesday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to NWS, with lows in the mid-70s.

NWS is also reporting a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms on the Fourth of July. Temperatures should peak at about 94 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Wednesday night, there is also a chance of rain – 20 percent – and temperatures should drop to the low 70s.

No rain in the forecast Thursday, just sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-90s. Thursday night, temperatures will drop to the low 70s, according to NWS.

Friday looks dry, too, according to NWS. With clear, sunny skies and highs in the mid-90s. Friday night, temperatures will drop to the mid-70s according to NWS, and we'll have partly cloudy skies.

A week ago I would have thought the same thing, Matt. But Friday morning, there was a 20 percent chance of storms. And we know how that turned out.

Yeah, I guess everybody is more careful to lock the doors after a burglary. I'm not sure one outlying event means that we should get spun up about every chance of t-storms.

I understand how the news business works though. You have to have headlines that spark the public's interest. Even when the public is interested in statistically insignificant chances. At least as long as people are still playing the lottery.
