Winning Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Baltimore County

There were three jackpot winners nationwide.

UPDATE (8:25 a.m.)Maryland State Lottery announced early Saturday a record-breaking Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold at a Baltimore County retailer.

The ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven store in the 8000 block of Liberty Road in Milford Mill, The Baltimore Sun reported.

By 7 a.m. reporters and television news crews had descended on the store. The store owner declined comment.

Three winning tickets have reportedly been sold across the nation, in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas, forcing a three-way split of the $640 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Earlier, a Maryland Lottery release said lottery officials were awaiting information on whether the Maryland ticket was the sole winner.

"Lottery officials are waiting for information on jackpot winners from other Mega Millions states," according to the Maryland Lottery release.

Carole Everett, director of communications for the Maryland Lottery, told Huffington Post it was too early to know more about the ticket holder or whether other winning tickets had been sold.

“This is truly remarkable and historic,” Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino said in a statement. “We can’t wait to greet the winner of this world-record setting jackpot.”

This week friends, neighbors and colleagues have been asking the same question: What would I do if I won hundreds of millions of dollars overnight?

Before the drawing, Dundalk Patch asked locals what they would do with the jackpot should they win.

A number of residents shared dreams of philanthropy and quitting current jobs.

The winning numbers were 2-4-23-38-46 and Mega Ball 23.

The jackpot tops the previous record of a Maryland win, according to a Maryland Lottery news release. Winners are not required to be made public in Maryland, lottery officials said.

Congrats to the winner! That location was very close to where I live. I agree to a certain extent to what Corey said but they can afford to move somewhere new to avoid the hate mail and if the family will stop talking to them then who cares because they're rich biotches!!

I'm happy one of the winners were from Maryland. Especially from a lower income community. Congrats on your new life winner!

According to the Mega Millions website 50% of their revenues go into the winnings pot, 15% goes into operator commissions, and 35% go to the states' governments (much too low in my own opinion. The states should get 50% and winners get 35%.)

Maryland Lottery says this about where Mega Millions and other lottery money goes: Lottery revenues are deposited into the State’s General Fund. Over $519 million was contributed to support such services and programs as education, public health, human resources, public safety and much more, all of which greatly benefit the citizens of Maryland. Designated proceeds from the Mega Millions game benefit the Stadium Authority.

Really? The stadium Authority?????

Putting the money into the General Fund is basically flushing it down the toilet. It can go to any thing for any reason. I bet worthy causes as education and public safety get very small pieces of the lottery revenue pie. I admit to being too lazy to look up exactly how much money goes to what, so I could just be a blowhard idiot, but I doubt I'm that much of a blowhard idiot considering size of the pie.
