Main Street Road Work Update

Rain has pushed back the schedule for sidewalk work, repaving.

Road work that was scheduled to begin last Monday in the Historic District has been postponed and will instead begin this weekend, according to a county official.

Planning and Zoning Director of Special Projects Stephen Lafferty said that because of this week’s rain, curb and gutter replacement, as well as some sidewalk replacement, will begin Sunday night.

Concrete work will begin next week near the entrance to St. Paul's Church along College Avenue, and on Main Street between Maryland Ave. and Tiber Alley, Lafferty wrote in an email to Historic District residents and merchants.

Work will be done from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and drivers can expect flaggers to direct traffic and maybe temporary detours on College Ave., Lafferty said; Main Street will remain open.

After the curb, gutter and sidewalk work is complete, Lafferty said, crews will begin repaving Main Street, during which time at least one lane of the road will remain open.

Maybe the sound of the freight trains slowly rumbling along will drown out the noise...

I've tuned all that out. I even slept through the derailment and subsequent sirens. The only really bad night I ever had was when BGE put the new power line into the Obladi B&B across the street. #jackhammerallnight
