Jury Selection Begins in Barber's Sexual Assault Trial
Jung Gon Kim is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old client at his Ellicott City salon.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday morning for an Ellicott City barber who was charged with sexually assaulting a client.
Jung Gon Kim, 54, of Boyds, MD was arrested in early November after the client, a 13-year-old boy, told police that the barber sexually assaulted him at Sound of Scissors Hair Salon, 3419 Plum Tree Drive.
In a statement to police, the boy said when he went for hair cuts, Kim, who owns the salon, would make sure the boy was the last client in the building.
According to documents, the boy also said Kim would ask him questions about puberty and sexuality and that Kim asked him to watch pornography.
Kim told police that he had asked the boy questions about puberty. According to the charging documents, Kim said that “this is a part of his culture and he did not see anything wrong with it.”
Jury selection begins Monday in Circuit Court. Kim faces one charge of second degree sexual assault and two charges of third degree sexual assault.
