Ellicott City Man Dies 6 Months After Bike Collision

Hopkins student Nathan Krasnopler was struck by a vehicle on West University Parkway.

Nathan Krasnopoler, an Ellicott City resident and Johns Hopkins University student who was in a on Feb. 26, died Wednesday morning, according to a press release sent out by his family. 

Krasnopoler was riding his bike on West University Parkway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 83-year-old Jeanette Marie Walke, according to Baltimore City police.

The accident left the 20-year-old in a coma with irreversible brain damage. He died in his sleep, under hospice care, surrounded by family members.

The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Sol Levinson's Funeral Home in Pikesville.

The  that Walke was cited for negligent driving and failure to yield the right-of-way to a bicyclist in a bike lane. In addition, the Krasnopoler family is suing Walke for $10 million dollars.

The family is establishing a memorial fund in Krasnopoler's honor at the Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. The fund will benefit the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.

Krasnopoler was studying computer science and mathematics at Hopkins. He was scheduled to graduate in 2013.
