What are you going to do with the kids this weekend?

 

It's Wednesday, which means, before you know it, it will be Friday. And you know what's next -- the weekend.

Here's a heads up on some family friendly weekend activities in Ellicott City and nearby towns:

    CUPIDS AND CANINES

    Where/When: Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St in Savage on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

    Why Go: Looking for your family's Fido? Come out and see plenty of pooches who are up for adoption from some of the area's best rescues and shelters. There will also be prizes, raffles and refreshments.


    Pricing: Free

    JOURNEY THROUGH TIME WITH THE AMERICAN GIRLS

      Where/When: 6109 Rockburn Branch Park Drive in Elkridge on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

      Why Go: Do some creative crafts, enjoy some fun activities and hear some great music in a historical one-room schoolhouse. This is one of three parties, and people are invited to attend one, two or all three. For children in grades 1 through 6.

      Pricing: $5  

       

      STORYTELLING FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART

        Where/When: The Catonsville Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library at 1100 Frederick Road in Catonsville on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

        Why Go: Sponsored by the Friends of Catonsville Library, stories about lighthearted characters like Anansi the Spider to more serious topics like the Underground Railroad. Learn more about Black History in an entertaining setting.

        Pricing: Free

         

        VALENTINE RENDEZVOUS

          Where/When: Owen Brown Community Center at 6800 Cradlerock Way in Columbia on Friday, Feb. 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

          Why Go: Get the best of both worlds: entertainment for the kids (crafts) and entertainment for the adults (wine and chocolate fondue). Pre-registration is required.

          Pricing: Adults: $2.50, kids: free

           

          BOOK LAUNCH - SEA FEATHER

            Where/When: A Likely Story Bookstore at 7566 Main St. in Sykesville on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

            Why Go: Local author Lois Szymanski will talk about her latest book called The True Story of Sea Feather. This book is for kids age 9 to 11 and is the true story of the Chincoteague pony her daughters adopted. She will also sign copies of the book.

            The MeadowBrook Nature Hike has been cancelled, according to the Parks and Rec site.
