Early Voting Surpasses 2010 Election
Most counties in Maryland show a spike in early voting turnout in 2012 while Anne Arundel and Worcester Counties show decreases.
Turnout for early voting this year has already exceeded that of 2010 in 22 of 24 jurisdictions in the state.
And while two counties report declines in the overall percentages one Eastern Shore county reports close to a 20 percent turnout.
But the exact meaning of the higher turnout is hard to immediately discern, according to one local elections analyst.
Residents across the state have the opportunity to cast votes for President, U.S. Senate, eight congressional races and seven statewide ballot questions including congressional redistricting, the Maryland DREAM Act, same-sex marriage and expanded gambling.

| Jurisdiction | 2012 Early Voting | 2010 Early Voting |
| Talbot | 18.08% | 14.46% |
| Kent | 14.99% | 13.03% |
| Howard | 12.20% | 8.37% |
| Caroline | 10.27% | 8.38% |
| Dorchester | 9.48% | 6.82% |
| Queen Anne's | 9.44% | 9.12% |
| Montgomery | 9.41% | 4.66% |
| Charles | 9.23% | 5.70% |
| Prince George's | 9.06% | 7.45% |
| Somerset | 9% | 7.32% |
In four counties—Caroline, Howard, Kent and Somerset—the early voting turnout over the first six days exceeded 10 percent. Talbot County reported more than 18 percent turnout this year.
A majority of the top 10 jurisdictions, in terms of highest turnout, were not in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.
Even so, jurisdictions like Baltimore City, Baltimore and Harford Counties also recorded increased turnout over 2010.

| Jurisdiction | 2012 Early Voting | 2010 Early Voting | |
| Baltimore City | 8.77% | 5.44% | |
| Baltimore County | 8.22% | 6.34% | |
| Harford County | 7.62% | 7.45% |
Anne Arundel County, which reported 8.74 percent voter turnout in 2010, is slightly down in 2012, reporting just over 8 percent turnout headed into Friday—the last day of early voting. Worcester County is the only other jurisdiction to be slightly under the 2010 early voter turnout.
What the increased turnout means for candidates and the various ballot questions is not clear, according to Donald Norris, Chairman of the Department of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
"There is little or no evidence that early voting matters in overall turnout or in overall turnout among sub groups of voters—elderly, young, minorities, etc.," said Norris. "So I am not inclined to say anything about this except that turnout is up."

"give someone else a try at doing a better job."
Since Republicans have a history of spending us into huge deficits and Tea Partiers want us to do the same and also default on our financial obligations to our creditors, there really aren't enough Greens and Independents running to take a majority of either house of Congress. Deficit spending has been coming down (slightly) in the past four years and with increased revenues from raising taxes to past levels we have a better chance at getting our deficits down with Democrats.

What total unsupportable nonsense.
There were 2 people who could have defaulted on our obligations and ONLY 2. Obama and Geithner.
The fact is a default would have never happened. A default would only occur if the interest on US Treasuries were not paid. There was far more than enough cash flowing into the federal coffers to pay those debts.
Obama was responsible for the downgrade of US Debt no one else!

No matter what ridiculous ideas they come up with down in Annapolis, and there's no shortage of those, the sheeple just go right in the polling booths and keep electing these people because they believe all of the drivel about how any opposition will be even worse. If liberalism and democrats have it all figured out, then Baltimore City should be a utopian society. Baltimore has been run by democrats for over 40 years. Everyone from the Mayor to the dog catcher is a democrat. What have they accomplished with 40 years of one party rule - outrageous property taxes, failing schools, and out of control crime. Baltimoreistan has now joined the other once proud and beautiful cities that dems have turned into third world countries. Face it, liberlism has failed. We need to get rid of both parties and get back to basics with a party that does not spend more money than they take in, rejects all the money from special interests, and speaks for the majority of the people.

DON'T BUY THE LINE THEY ARE SELLING. It is part of a massive strategy. Their goal is to 'back' Independents - who make no mistake - will be owned by the Rep Party and will fall in lock step with obstructionist Republicans. The goal being if Romney loses, the Republicans will overtake state legislatures and pass more anti-union, anti-woman, anti-middle-class, anti-environmental laws. THIS very thing has been going on for the past three years while we have all been caught up with the 'big picture'. They did this during the Obamacare debate summer, flooding the states town hall meetings with out of state rabble-rousers, and ushered in a wave of Tea Party extremists, who at the time claimed to be free-thinkers. What I don't understand is why the County didn't have more than 13 terminals at the early voting centers. I waitied in line for about 2 hours and heard stories of some who waited last weekend for 3-4 hours. This is supposed to be a convenient voting method. The County already owns the equipment, just set more terminals up against the wall. There didn't appear to be a delay caused by the staff, it just took a while to read the questions and cast a vote. Double the number of units and slice the wait time in half. I was able to wait, but if I had my young kids with me or an elderly parent/grandparent, it would have been a nightmare

Regardless if the Tea Party is thrown out of Congress or not we need to have logic and reasoning in our government. Joe, the democrats are not socialists.
Here is a definition of Socialism from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
1. any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2. a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3. a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
If the democrats were true socialist your property would be confiscated, big banks and oil companies would not have high recording breaking profits, and the wealth gap would be reduced. If Obama and the democrats are socialist, they sure suck at it.

But to ask for a photo ID to vote is considered suppressing someone's right to vote. Anyone that wants to excercise their right to vote can obtain a photo ID. All it takes is a little effort on their par to do it, and if they don't want to make the effort, then they shouldn't be able to vote. Sounds simple doesn't it? But there are people that want to complicate it.

Maybe suppress the votes of the dead, illegals and things of that nature but no one is being denied the right to vote. This is an allegation that the democrats make every election in order to scare minorites into thinking that the republicans are out to get them. States that have passed voter ID laws have actually seen an increase in minority voting. This isn't Mississippi circa 1960 and it's time that you stop promoting a lie.

FIFA - Since you are all about not suppressing rights, why do I have to show 2 ID's, fill out a dozen forms and wait 7 days to exercise my right under the second amendment to legally buy a gun? Why do I have to show ID to get into a government building to exercise my right to visit the elected official that I do NOT have to show ID to vote for? Why must I show ID to board a train or plane to exercise my right of interstate travel, guaranteed under Supreme Court rulings.
The whole notion that requiring ID in order to vote has been a lie from the minute it was decided to be used. If this is truly the case, then even the requirement to register to vote should seem racist to the same groups who believe the lie of suppression. And that argument was used to push "Motor Voter" laws to require voter registration be done at Motor Vehicles Offices. It is used to divide this country along racial lines in order to secure votes from minorities for unscrupulous and despicable candidates. Not to mention giving "Sheepeople" the opportunity to parrot the party line on message boards

@Bob - the point of showing an ID to get a gun is that it has been shown that gun ownership probably shouldn't be a good idea for everyone. Thus reducing the chance someone who shouldn't have a gun gets one.
Showing an ID to enter a building is again attempting to solve a problem. It appears too many people have entered those building to shoot their representatives.
Showing an ID to get on a plane is again attempting to solve a problem. It seems 19 guys did that on 9/11/2001 and blew up a couple of buildings in New York I believe?
Republicans forcing people to get photo IDs is Republicans way of attempting to solve a problem, just not the problem you believe. Republicans believe too many people without IDs vote democratic and thus Republicans are attempting to reduce democratic turnout.
You and I disagree, respectfully. As I previously said, photo ID is nothing but background noise. How sure are you that the electronic vote totaling is secure? That the software programs do not have game changing features to alter the vote? That is what I am worried about. Corporations own that software, not the voters.

These past four years - with progress in Congress thwarted by the treasonous Republican vow of destruction & obstruction of the President - billions of dollars & intense effort has been concentrated on disabling worker's rights, stripping social programs, & enacting invasive laws regressing women's rights. Instead of passing the President's Jobs Bill, Republicans wasted hundreds of working hours wasting tax-payer dollars on rendering productive government paralyzed by unprecedented filibusters & consistent Party-line, partisan "NO" votes. @amark - truth matters.
1. "Do you remember that the democrats controlled everything in '09 and '10?" Interesting stretch of the facts to fit your narrative. Does "control" mean they had a majority in the House and Senate or does "control" mean you get to do what ever you want? The democrats only had a super majority (60 votes) for about 4 months due to the late swearing in of Al Franken and the death of Ted Kennedy. As most people know it requires a super majority to get almost anything done in the Senate.
2. Socialism - I presume you mean Obamacare as I would welcome other examples of "socialism" by this President. Since Romney passed "Romneycare" I presume he is a socialist also in your way of thinking?
3. Obama did try to work across the aisle, did the Republicans try? Or was Mitch McConnell's statement that his first priority was to make Obama a "one term president" mean anything?
4. Dictator - that probably more closely fits GWB. He got two unnecessary sets of tax cuts passed and two wars started. There is a tin horn dictator if there ever was one. His quote was something to the effect, "I have political capital and I'm going to spend it".
amark

FIFA, they had control of everything. I do not support Romneycare but Romney is the only candidate who might repeal Obamacare. I love the way the democrats throw out the Mcconnell line all the time. What did you expect him to want Obama reelected? And when your president Obama says "if Congress will not act then I will" that should scare any decent American. The government cannot give anything to anyone until it takes it from someone else and there are some that think this should be the American way. Currently, that someone else is China, but the future costs to our children and grandchildren will be devistating, and the politicians that got us into this mess will be long gone.
On second thought, it doesn't sound that wonderful after all !

John T. you have to remember Obama and his allies are making this an election about small things and in many cases non existent things. No one is threatening to take away women's birth control. George Stephanopolous raised that in a republican primary debate and the democrats latched onto it. Mitt Romney is a decent and very successful businessman, not some evil corporate executive who wants people to die of cancer. In fact he was such a success that he was asked to run the 2002 Olympics. Would anyone ever ask Obama to run the Olympics LOL. When you have a miserable record of failure and are taking this nation on the road to Europe, they really have no choice but to run a slash and burn campaign full of lies. If enough people fall for it, we are doomed come Tuesday. If not, we have a chance to recover.

I would be interested to see, after the election, the change in the number of absentee ballots. I think this is where early voting would have an impact, people who are going to away on election day. Do not forget, America got into this mess by over eight years of FAILED Right wing trickle-down nonsense. Wealth & prosperity NEVER trickles down in Republican economics. It takes and takes from the middle and bottom and deposits it up where profits are pocketed, reinvested in stocks, poured into companies set up in foreign countries where laborers are paid pennies to the dollar and hidden in off-shore tax havens. He was rudely and sadly awakened to the fact that all his attempts would be met with a coldly calculated rejection! If anything the idealistic new president was naive in not recognizing the intensity of the lethal Republican opposition and vitriol. He needed to put the gloves on and present a battle-ready posture from the moment he assumed the title. Instead, the President invited the GOP to the White House for cocktails in an unprecedented display of bi-partisanship. Admirable indeed yet entirely too idealistic in respect to the visceral Repub hatred felt towards this newly inaugurated President. ~ first attempt at reaching across the isle saw cold rejection. The Republicans rejected Barack Obama's hospitality and have refused to give an inch consistently over the past four years of filibuster, spin and opposition.
They played a great game and guess what? Instead of raising up this country and healing it they smashed a foot on the hands of an earnest President & his administration & in so doing kept the country from a speedier recovery.

What in the (world) are you talking about? Obama never had any intention of being bi-partisan. He was trained on the streets of Chicago in the Saul Alinsky playbook, and he brought that to the White House with him. Remember when he said "if they bring a knife we bring a gun". That is the type of person he is. The persona that he ran on last time was a complete fraud. And P. Davis, you are obviously a kool aid drinking, MSDNC watching robot but the republicans have done nothing except try to oppose the type of disasterous legislation that this man has put forth. That is what an opposition party does for your information and what your democrat heroes have done to republican presidents every time they have been in. The only difference is we have never had someone as far to the left in the white house as we do today. Yeah Obama has been bipartisan, he has worked with the left and the far left but never across the aisle and you are putting out complete misinformation saying he has.
Christopher Kidwell

amark, you need to wake up. Obama was MORE than willing to be bipartisan, he just was NOT willing to keep on with the policies that we KNOW didn't work and lead to the stock market and housing market crash, such as:
1. Removing regulations that are necessary on companies.
2. Removing environmental regulations that keep companies from polluting to their hearts content.
3. Giving tax breaks to the wealthy, who have done NOTHING with the ones they were given in the Bush years.
Need I keep going on?
If the Republicans would have been willing to admit that those policies DID NOT WORK (bottom lining it here, they just didn't), he could have been bipartisan.
But no, the Republicans, earning their derisive nickname of Rethuglicans, kept on throwing walls up in front of Obama and throwing hissies when he refused to support those policies listed above.

Nor am I able to view selective healthcare for the elderly equitable; 15 individuals choose whether my elder parents are to old to receive knee replacements, etc. Socialism controls every aspect of your life. Liberals believe in Partial Birth Abortion - (a true murder). View it on the internet, a partial birth abortion is when the abortionist uses a probe in the base of the skull and sucks the brain out of a baby so the skull collapes to be removed from the mother.
Obama's stranglehold (not presidency) on America is to weaken us, and bring Americans to our knees. A president who spends time talking to The Pimp with a Limp, is a low-life. With Bengazhi, (sp) this so-called President is a Murderer. Obama has "dumbed" the presidency - actually he is the puppet of Valerie Jarret (a socialist) who has more security than Bohner.
For those of you who know nothing about Socialism, view old photos of East Berlin, Germany. Everyone drives the same car, everyone works in the factory, when you are to old - you are sent away in camps to die, everyone wears the same clothes, and everyone eats the same week old bread. Your boy Silver is basing his entire prediction on polls that are presuming the dems will have the same turnout in 2008. This despite the fact that republican enthusiasm is higher then the dems. This despite Mitt Romney leading in virtually any poll among independents. This despite the fact that republicans are doing far far better in early voting then 4 years ago (they trail in some states like OH and FL, but it's much closer than 2008). This despite the fact that the incumbent has a worse record than Jimmy Carter. I'm not as optimistic as some on my side, but I would say it's 50/50 right now because I know there are plenty of people like you out there.

CPUSA Says Re-electing Obama is “Absolutely Essential”
"A writer for the Communist Party USA says that “…re-electing Obama is absolutely essential,” and warns that “divisions among Democrats and a potential wave of bad economic news can combine to threaten President Obama’s reelection.”
Marxist John Case, who writes for various CPUSA publications, has written a piece, “The danger of a Romney election [1],” for the party publication People’s World, which warns that “Re-electing Obama is not sufficient to bring economic recovery or even relief to our people. Only a different class configuration in political power can do necessary minimum reforms to give us a chance. But re-electing Obama is absolutely essential. Now is not the time for hand washing the complexities and tactics away—or failing to triage the most critical questions from those that are less critical. We cannot win everything at once!”
In reality, the CPUSA’s endorsement of Obama for a second term is not surprising. Various CPUSA officials, including Jarvis Tyner and Joelle Fishman, have openly expressed support for the U.S. President and his agenda."

"Sam Webb Via People’s World:
It is obvious that there is a growing feeling of frustration and even anger among supporters of the Democratic Party with its performance over the past two years.
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, speaking for the labor movement, strongly expressed this unhappiness in some recent speeches.
I am disappointed too with some aspects of the Obama administration’s domestic and foreign policy.
But I don’t forget that this administration governs in a very hostile political environment in which the right is laboring overtime to wreck its initiatives at every step of the way.
In addition, there are the structural pressures of governing in a capitalist economy and state.
Then there are conservative pressures coming from some congressional Democrats and members of the administration.
Everything can’t be explained away by the objective context, however. The president and his administration can be faulted for a number of policy decisions."

There will be a generational shift in the House after Tuesday's elections. Republicans who have less than three years of experience in the House -- many of whom are Tea Party members -- will make up more than a third of the House GOP. This means conservatives will have more influence in Congress regardless of who wins Tuesday's election.
According to Charlie Cook of the "Cook Political Report":
While the GOP will retain a strong majority, there will be historic generational turnover. More than four fifths of the 87 member GOP freshman class are likely to win a second term, but 62 seats have no incumbent on the ballot (a record since 1992), and the next freshman class is likely to include between 75 and 85 members. It’s certain that more than a third of members will have less than three years of House experience when the next Congress is sworn in in January.
Cook also writes as the Tea Party is expected to make more gains, continuing the momentum from the historic midterm elections in which they gave Republicans the majority back in the House, "Democrats in the Blue Dog Coalition are likely to be cut in half for the second consecutive cycle."
On the other hand, "women and minorities will be a majority of the Democratic caucus," and Democrats in the House are likely to move even more to the left.
Tim

This is one of your better copy/pastes, Joe (in my view).
As someone who's effectively one of those "Blue Dogs" (it's the closest means of classifying myself I can find), seeing these olders guys, both parties, essentially quitting because (paraphrased)
"No one does any work. No compromises out of anyone, either side. That's not how this institution used to work back in my earlier years. We worked together, we gave up some things to get some other things from (other party) and we kept this nation moving forward. Now, things are a mess."
Again, paraphrased greatly, that's the generalized statements coming out of several retiring/soon to be retiring Congressman.
Although I am not convinced the Tea Party will make actual gains, it's a reasonable possibility. If they do, then it's going to bode poorly for the country, as the polarization of both sides (regardless of where one falls) is going to continue crippling the nation.

I could call it "Femmes and Dems" and could have OctoName as a guest at least 8 different shows as he comes on and acts out all of his different user names. Bravo anyone? Later Kittens. One time, at band camp....I was sitting alone like I usually did at lunch since nobody understood me and I did not know how to talk to girls. I turned on my laptop computer and read an ad about how to get women. It involved using charisma and multiple personality types for every situation. I spent the entire summer practicing all my different names and identities. Now many years later it has provided me with income, cheetos, and respect amongst my computer family. But alas poor Yurick, it did not bring the wanted attention of girls. Can anyone help me? I am a computer god and legend among the Sims but I just cannot seem to leave the basement and score. Tips? Instead of relying on casino money from table games the state of Maryland needs to bring games of chance to the masses. We can have our own gambling right here in the state with all revenue going to the needy. We can start by creating a wheel of OctoName. On the wheel we will have all of their psuedo names. You simply spin the wheel and if the name it lands on matches the next time stamp you will a predetermined prize based on the spinning of another wheel. Remember kittens, there are pitfalls when one goes where only eagles dare. If you spin the wheel and get a bag of cheetos, a check with the government's stamp on it, or a basement sofa you forfeit your winnings from the first wheel. Who will step right up, or by Barker come on down????????????????

Why is that former Republican presidents graciously avoid the spotlight after their term, and yet we have to listen to presidential failures like Carter and Clinton continue to pontificate and spew their mindless dribble for decades. The one great thing is that tomorrow will be the end of the worst presidency that this nation has ever seen. But unfortunately, we will have to listen to Obama for the next thirty years spouting off about issues for which he demonstrated himself to be a complete failure.

To Honey Hal and 1KE: Your sad comments - reflect your age, you are 30-35 and extremely angry at the world, because Mommy and Daddy didn't give you what you WANT. No am not uninformed, I have lived in West Berlin, and viewed the Socialist society in East Berlin, and East Germany, prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall. My West Berlin neighbors, told countless stories of relatives in East Germany, and the lack of freedom of speech, food, clothing, etc. Right wing media did not influence my opinions, I have lived over 10 years of my life overseas; and have seen things only YOU see in magazines. I lived in the Middle East, and assisted refugees fleeing from genocide, long before Brad Pitt made Darfur a popular cause. Honey Hal and 1KE, you can scream from your Ivory Towers, but your thought system, reflects limited common sense; and a lack of knowledge of the strife of the world. Allegation of unions putting illegal immigrants on voter rolls clouds Nevada voting
"Just hours before voters go to the polls in the battleground state of Nevada, a national group has announced it plans to file a complaint regarding illegal immigrants purportedly being allowed to vote.
ALIPAC, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, based in Raleigh, N.C., sent the Nevada secretary of state an email outlining its intention.
"We want to stop the felonious thefts of American elections," says William Gheen, ALIPAC's president.
Gheen points to a commentary published in Sunday's Las Vegas Review Journal. In it, editorial writer Glenn Cook accuses the Culinary Union 226 of knowingly registering illegal immigrants and then pressured them to vote.
Cook quotes an unidentified illegal immigrant who is on the Clark County voter rolls. The person claims a union representative told them they were "in so much trouble" for refusing to vote.
Catherine Lu, a spokesperson for Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller, said she could not comment on Cook's editorial or ALIPAC's official complaint.
Gheen says his group wants all non U.S. citizens removed from the voter rolls before Tuesday's election. He suggested the state could use Homeland Security databases such as E-verify to do the job."
