Business Review: Ice Berry Natural Frozen Yogurt -- All Pleasure, No Guilt

Check out the delicious and healthy frozen treats at this hip yogurt shop.

The frozen yogurt mania has spread from the East to America and has hit Ellicott City like a mighty wind.  Ice Berry is one of the newcomers to the area and holding its own with its selection of natural frozen yogurts.  The petite, well -designed shop  is located in a major shopping plaza and shares space with Bare Bones Grill.

Walking into the yogurt shop is like entering into a candy land of bright colored chairs and sleek modern shapes: basically, a fun place to enjoy dessert with family, friends, or a date.  There is seating in the front of the shop and more in the back. During my visit, there were customers of all ages and types eating inside and getting the yogurt to go.

The most eye catching part of the décor is the lit up marker board that the owner draws doodles and artistic renderings on that are reminiscent of many Asian cartoons.  The drawings are done on a glass board and the light behind the glass causes the lines to be lit up, fluorescent like a Light Bright toy.

The frozen yogurt dispensers features six flavors, side by side and the twist of two flavors: melon and orange, chocolate and vanilla, and original tart and strawberry.  I got a little helping of each of the flavors.  My favorites were the vanilla which was quite rich in flavor and the orange that was very citrusy.  But the prize goes to the melon, which tasted like one of my favorite Korean popsicles -- Melona.  The melon flavor was sweet and if you could extract the best essence of a ripe melon and place it into a dessert, you would get melon frozen yogurt.  I had to stop myself from going back and getting a heaping serving of just this flavor.  The self-serve cups come in a wide range from single to the largest for sharing or big appetites.

A wide range of diced fruits are availablef for toppings. The little bins of mangoes, strawberries, berries, blueberries, kiwi and others were fresh and ripe as if they had just been picked. There was also a selection of candied and sweet toppings like sprinkles and chips.  But the best part of their offerings is the variety of syrups used to drizzle on top.  They have everything from traditional chocolate and caramel to my favorite, vanilla crème.  The vanilla sauce was sublime against the tart of the fruit flavors and toppings.

The price was reasonable and the service was excellent and courteous. Don't forget that Ice Berry offers a club card; after 10 purchases of a yogurt over $3, you get a small yogurt free.  My serving was pretty large with a great deal of fruit and that wonderful vanilla sauce on top, and it came out to be around $4 and some change. They are open until midnight seven days a week, so stop by for a healthy evening dessert when you are craving tart and sweet indulgence.
