GLENELG COUNTRY SCHOOL TO ADD TURF FIELD AND EQUESTRIAN TEAM TO THE SPORTS PROGRAM

Starting Fall 2012, Glenelg Country School is adding two new features to the athletic program – a state-of-the-art turf field, complete with a six-lane competition track, and the beginnings of an equestrian team.

Construction on the new field will begin in early July, with a completion date for the upcoming fall sport season. GCS has contracted with Clark Construction to handle the project and photo updates will be posted at www.glenelg.org. The turf field will round out the current athletic facilities that boast a 35,000 square-foot athletic center with two basketball courts, a multipurpose athletic room, fitness and training centers, locker rooms and offices, three additional playing fields (two of which are Bermuda), a baseball field and five tennis courts.

The Equestrian program will begin as a club team, under the direction of head coach Kara Listrani. Senior Lexi Markman will be the student captain for the inaugural season. Practices and boarding of horses will be housed at Walnut Pond Farm in Brookeville, Maryland and the team will compete as part of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) in hunt seat, saddle and western.
